AFCOOP Annual General Meeting on July 30th
Mark your calendars! The Atlantic Filmmakers Cooperative’s Annual General Meeting will be held on Thursday, July 30th at 6:30 PM. Hosted at AFCOOP’s office at 1800 Argyle St, we will be going over the last year of activity at the cooperative, and goals for the upcoming year. Our general meetings are open to the public. We will also vote in new members AND LIFETIME MEMBERS (10+ years) at this meeting. Avalon Fast’s CAMP is hard to describe. Weaving Fast’s signature Girl Horror aesthetics into a hypnotic summer parable about grief and forgiveness, the film flows from a recognizable sleepaway-camp setting into dreamy new territories. It’s a film that depicts magic and queerness as a natural emotional extension of the world, and friendship as our salvation. Fleapit Cinema is very excited to be presenting the film alongside a newly recorded conversation with Fast about CAMP, Drinking and Driving, magic, acting, grief, and the future. |

Employing antiquated techniques, Agatha plants and harvests her expansive field of watermelons, beans, flowers, herbs, and vegetables entirely by hand. Without a car, cell phone, running water, or even a functioning landline, Agatha’s meditative processes and daily rituals form a vivid counterpoint to the rapid pace of contemporary life. |

The film traces Satrapi's growth from child to rebellious, punk-loving teenager in Iran. In the background are the growing tensions of the political climate in Iran in the 70s and 80s, with members of her liberal-leaning family detained and then executed, and the background of the disastrous Iran/Iraq war. Lucid Toons screens Persepolis in remembrance of acclaimed Iranian-French cartoonist, filmmaker and activist Marjane Satrapi (1969-2026). |

Wonder’neath Workshop: In an age of seemingly endless consumption – of resources, and of images – what can we learn from slow, tactile, and ecologically-minded approaches to photography? Wonder’neath is pleased to present Slow Photography Synthesis with visual artist natalie goulet! In this full day workshop, participants will obtain practical experience with cameraless processes, learn to make their own eco-friendly developer for film and paper negatives, and engage in critical discussion of ecological and ethical implications in photography. We will discuss the physical and chemical components and impacts of photography, how to integrate sustainable approaches, and how these ways of thinking and working can be echoed across disciplines. What you’ll learn: This workshop covers how to make vibrant, colourful images with traditional black and white photo paper through Lumen printing (photogenic drawing) and Phytography, which activates the internal chemistry of plants and common household ingredients to selectively develop areas of silver gelatin paper and film. Participants will then learn the basics of creating a B&W developer from plants, seaweeds, and food waste. We will discuss safe, effective, and regenerative ways of working with analogue photographic processes beyond the traditional darkroom. | Who is this for: No science or photography background needed. This workshop is for anyone curious to learn alternative forms of image-making, informed by an intersectional ecofeminist research perspective.  All materials will be provided. CFAT Media Arts Scholarship 2026/27: Call for Applications
Want to learn something new?! Selected applicants are required to make a media art piece in a medium in which they have little to no previous experience. Scholars are responsible for learning the skills required for completing their piece within the parameters of the program. The Media Art Scholarship is open to any member of the public who does not currently have access to this type of focused education and skill development (current students are not eligible). | Scholars receive: This year the Media Art Scholarship program will focus on media art projects that involve interactive installation! Last Draft Script Development Program - Now Open!
Screen Nova Scotia is now accepting applications for the 2026 Last Draft Script Development Program. This feature film writing program will develop, to an advanced level, the feature screenplays of two Nova Scotia screenwriters by partnering selected participants with established script development editors and producers. Over a period of 6-8 months, the participant and script development editor will work together to develop financeable, producible and exportable projects tailored to reach global audiences. Participants will also be paired with an established local producer who will be available for three one-hour discussions throughout the program. The producer will challenge the participant to consider project financing and production logistics throughout the script development process. |  The goal of The Last Draft Program is to not only develop great scripts, but for these stories to become great films. The Women in Post program provides higher-level industry access and professional development for emerging to mid-level women-identifying and non-binary creatives working in all areas of post production. Antigonight 2026 is exploring the ways in which our tides could turn for the better. ‘Turning Tides’ asks artists and guests to explore their relationships to nature, the wilderness and the water, and consider how our environment informs our arts practices and the ways we relate to the world around us. Antigonight is a free, annual, night festival of interactive arts in Antigonish, L’nuewa’ki (Mi’kma’ki)/Nova Scotia.
